Designed for a growing family with a desire to spend more time outdoors together, this Great Falls landscape balances recreation, relaxation, and natural beauty in equal measure.
The goal was to create an environment that could comfortably serve multiple generations at once – a place where children could play, adults could entertain, and grandparents could relax and enjoy the garden. Rather than treating these activities as separate experiences, the design brings them together within a cohesive outdoor setting that feels both highly functional and deeply connected to the surrounding landscape.
At every turn, the project encourages movement and gathering while maintaining a sense of refinement.
Designed as the centerpiece of the outdoor experience, the freeform pool creates a strong visual and functional connection between the home's gathering spaces.
Surrounded by expansive paver terraces, the pool creates an immediate sense of destination while establishing a natural gathering place for family and guests. Framed by natural stone and layered plantings, the integrated slide becomes part of the landscape itself – introducing a sense of play while reinforcing the resort-inspired character of the design.
Adjacent lawn areas provide room for informal recreation, while a multi-purpose athletic court accommodates half-court basketball, pickleball, and tennis. Together, these elements allow the landscape to accommodate a wide range of activities simultaneously, making it equally suited for large family gatherings and everyday use.

The result is a landscape that remains active and engaging throughout the day, with each space supporting a different way of enjoying the outdoors.
While recreation plays a central role, the landscape was equally designed around entertaining.
A generous paver patio extends directly from the residence, creating a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living. The layout provides ample space for dining, lounging, and gathering while maintaining clear connections to the pool and surrounding garden spaces.
Beneath the elevated deck, a fully equipped outdoor kitchen establishes a natural hub for hosting. Positioned beneath the deck, the kitchen provides a comfortable retreat from the summer sun, allowing hosts to prepare meals and entertain without missing a moment.

The layout unfolds naturally from one destination to the next, creating an outdoor experience that feels effortless and connected. Whether hosting a summer celebration or enjoying a quiet evening outdoors, the landscape adapts effortlessly to the occasion.
Connecting the various activity spaces is a network of pathways that encourages exploration throughout the property.
A stone staircase creates a memorable moment within the landscape, linking destinations while introducing a sense of movement and discovery. Rather than moving directly from one feature to the next, visitors experience the landscape as a sequence of spaces that gradually unfold.
Planting beds soften transitions throughout the site, framing views and providing seasonal interest without competing with the primary outdoor living areas.
